Baby Talk: Baby First Aid on the Sunshine Coast

Baby Talk: Baby First Aid on the Sunshine Coast

Introducing our non-accredited infant and child first aid course for parents, grandparents, babysitters and mothers’ groups.

Little ones, big questions

Welcoming a baby into the family brings plenty of firsts—and plenty of questions. If a baby choked, a child was injured or something unexpected happened while you were babysitting, would you feel prepared to respond?

Baby Talk is Horizon Training’s infant and child first aid awareness course on the Sunshine Coast. Our new course video introduces a simple aim: help the people caring for little ones feel more prepared through hands-on learning. This is a non-accredited course, focused on everyday awareness rather than a nationally recognised qualification.

Who is Baby Talk for?

The course is designed for parents, grandparents, babysitters and mothers’ groups. It is an opportunity for the people who share a child’s care to learn together, ask questions and build familiarity with infant and child first aid topics.

You might be preparing for your first baby, returning to babysitting after a few years, or looking for a practical activity for your mothers’ group. Baby Talk gives your family or group a shared starting point for conversations about being prepared.

Seven everyday first aid topics

The Baby Talk launch video highlights seven areas of learning:

• Infant and child CPR
• Choking in infants and children
• Common childhood illnesses
• Poisoning
• Burns
• Seizure management
• Minor-injury management.

These are course topics, not treatment instructions. The session provides an opportunity to explore them with a trainer, rather than relying on a short video or an article to learn how to respond.

Hands-on learning, together

The video’s message is “Learn together.” Baby Talk brings the focus back to practical learning and the people who look after children day to day. It is a chance to talk through questions with your trainer and take part in learning activities focused on infant and child first aid awareness.

For families, attending together can make it easier to discuss what you have learned afterwards. For mothers’ groups and other groups of carers, it offers a shared learning experience with a useful everyday focus.

What does non-accredited mean?

Baby Talk is an awareness course, not a nationally recognised first aid qualification. It should not be treated as a replacement for accredited training where an employer, workplace or childcare role requires a particular qualification.

If you need training for work, tell Horizon Training what your role requires before choosing a course. The team can help you compare Baby Talk with the accredited first aid and CPR options listed on the website.
